Black-hooded antwren: Mambucaba

The black-hooded antwren was known from 20 specimens that were collected in the 1800s in montane forest habitats of central Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. The species had not been reported since that collection until it was rediscovered in 1987 in the Atlantic forest in south Rio de Janeiro. Currently, the only confirmed population is believed to be restricted to remnant patches of forest habitat along roughly 30 km of coast near Paraty. On this tour we go to Mambucaba which has the highest density of pairs of this endangered species.
